ABOUT US

Our Story, or The search for Cloth Diapers

When we were expecting our first child, I decided that I would use cloth diapers on our baby. Both my husband and I had grown up changing the cloth diapers on our younger siblings, so we had lots of experience in this area. But I was not keen on using the traditional prefold diapers, pins, and vinyl covers. I knew there had to be something better out there. I had a vague recollection of seeing some kind of all-in-one diaper somewhere, and I wanted to use these "modern" diapers. One day I stopped in at Babies'R'Us to see their cloth diaper selection. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed. All they offered was the old-fashioned Gerber line-up. Where could I find the modern cloth diapers? Had they been a figment of my imagination?

My search led me to the internet. I was overjoyed to find a whole new world of cloth diapers! Not only did I find the all-in-one diapers that I had remembered, but so many different kinds of diapers, covers, and accessories that I had never imagined. But I wished that there was some way to purchase these items locally instead of online.

Then, through word of mouth and diligent searching, I became aware that there were several cloth diaper businesses right in our area. I wished that there was some kind of central place where one could browse the merchandise that the local businesses had to offer. I imagined some kind of small craft mall. Or maybe just a once-a-month gathering, kind of like a craft fair or swap meet for cloth diapers, etc. But I didn't know what the response would be from the general public. How many other people out there are searching for local cloth diaper choices?

Then a friend mentioned that she had wanted to use cloth diapers, but had given up when she couldn't find any "cool" diapers after browsing through a few stores. I told her that she needed to look online. I wondered, how many other people have given up after a short, fruitless search? I knew I had to do something!

I didn't have the funds to build an actual cloth diaper mall, but I could build a virtual one! The Boise Cloth Diapers website is the online version of my dream. It's my way of spreading the word in Boise that there is more than one way to diaper our babies! And we can experience the instant gratification of buying diapers from our neighbors. We don't have to wait for packages to arrive in the mail anymore! We don't have to pay shipping!

Boise Cloth Diapers is also the ultimate reference tool for anyone who would like to use cloth diapers. It includes the best information that I have gleaned from the internet, from friends, and from experience. It is a work in progress, so if you have any unanswered questions, great advice, etc., please contact us so that we can find a way to include it on our site.

So please, browse the site, try out a few different diapers, and tell a friend!

UPDATE OCTOBER 2006:
We have just moved to Ketchikan, Alaska. I will still keep this site running, but please contact me if you see something that needs updated. Thanks!
